If there is something that you have to try on the Isle of Man – it would be kayaking. For a simple reason, that the beautiful landscapes and cliffs of the island deserve to be seen from the sea, and believe me, it’s not exactly the same thing in comparison to what you might see from the shore.

We contacted George from the Sea Kayaking Isle of Man who gladly accepted to accompany us in our first kayak adventure. (The only similar experience we had was couple of hours of rafting in the Gorges du Tarn). Born in London, George moved to the Isle of Man years ago to get closer to the sea, where apart from his main occupation, started this small kayaking business.

We know a guy who made (or rather who is still making) a tour of Europe on foot. We have a friend, who covers 600 kilometers by bicycle in two days, we also know someone who cycles (or rather hikes) in the Himalayas in winter carrying his bike on his own back. Now we know George, who made a kayaking trip of 300 miles along the Aleutian Islands in six weeks (with his no less courageous friend). I mean, if there is a person who you can rely on in the kayaking question, we found him.

Thus we discovered our inner Pocahontas. If you have never tried the sea kayaking before, we can assure you that it gets easy as soon as you get how to keep the balance. Which is no more difficult than riding a bike. However, you can’t avoid getting wet – a point that we haven’t really considered before bringing our camera. The result: three time less pictures than this little trip deserved.

We were lucky with the weather conditions (as far as we can judge), but still paddling against the wind was quite tough, and we even managed to feel the beginning of nausea. Definitely not sea travelers.

Indeed, you wouldn’t guess that some cliffs of the Isle of Man look like this.

If you ever pass by the Isle of Man, be good to yourself – treat yourself with a little adventure.

We want to thank George for this friendly introduction to the world of sea kayaking. We enjoyed this fantastic experience as well as the interesting conversations “between travelers” 🙂  Good luck with all your further adventures.
